Executive Summary: Karma of Intentionally Burning Forests and Homes
A case study from the Dream in Dream Kindergarten exposing the terrifying karma of vengeful destruction. Deliberately committing arson to destroy the property and lives of others guarantees the perpetrator will be burned alive in hell and the human realm across countless lifetimes.
1. The Inferno of Vengeance
In a past life, this man was deeply petty and harbored intense, vengeful anger. After a conflict with a neighbor, he sought revenge by sneaking over in the dead of night and committing “Arson,” setting his enemy’s house ablaze. The entire family was horrifically burned alive. Furthermore, out of sheer laziness, he frequently started massive forest fires just to flush out animals for hunting, causing countless wild creatures to burn to death. Using fire to obliterate life and property is one of the heaviest and most violently “hot” karmas one can create.
2. The Retribution of Karma
- The 6th Major Hell (Tapana Naraka): Immediately upon death, his inner body was violently dragged into the 6th Major Hell (the realm of extreme heat). Hell wardens hurled him into a colossal, blazing furnace filled with hellfire. His body was scorched, blackened, and melted alive. He is forced to scream in unimaginable agony for eons.
- Burned Alive in the Human Realm: Once he finally escapes hell and is reborn as a human, the residual karma magnetically guarantees a horrific demise. He is destined to be burned alive in house fires, die in fiery accidents, or suffer severe acid attacks that melt his skin. He must experience the exact, excruciating burning agony he once inflicted on others.
- Absolute Ruin via Fire: If he manages to build a life and acquire property, the karma will invariably trigger severe house fires, burning his wealth to ashes time and time again (Vibati Sombat). He will be entirely incapable of retaining any physical property.
3. Spiritual Solutions
Luang Por Dhammajayo teaches that the fire of anger within the mind is far more terrifying than physical fire, because it will relentlessly burn one’s soul across lifetimes. Anyone who has committed the grave error of destroying others with fire must immediately extinguish the flames of vengeance in their own heart. They must aggressively generate “cooling” merit by donating lightbulbs, Buddhist Lent candles, or fire-extinguishing equipment to temples and public facilities. Crucially, they must meditate to radiate profound loving-kindness to the humans and animals they burned, using the “Water of Merit” to extinguish the hellfire waiting for them.
