Executive Summary: Karma of Spreading Defamation and Fake News

A case study from the Dream in Dream Kindergarten exposing the apocalyptic doom of destroying reputations. Fabricating malicious rumors, spreading fake news, and defaming innocent people guarantees the perpetrator will suffer agonizing tongue-mutilation in hell, be universally despised by society, and face wrongful imprisonment in future lifetimes.

1. The Assassin of Reputations

In a past life, this woman was consumed by intense envy and spite. Whenever she wanted to destroy a rival or someone more successful, she deployed a cowardly weapon: “Fabricating Malicious Rumors and Fake News.” She would meticulously invent horrific lies—accusing innocent people of embezzlement, adultery, or heinous crimes—and actively spread these lies throughout the community (or via modern social networks). Because of her highly convincing lies, many innocent people had their careers completely destroyed, their families torn apart, and some even committed suicide out of sheer public humiliation. Using words and text to systematically assassinate someone’s character is a catastrophic violation of the 4th Precept (Musavada), generating a massive, toxic cloud of dark karma.

2. The Retribution of Karma

  • The 4th Major Hell (Roruva Naraka): The instant she died, her heavy sins dragged her soul into Roruva Naraka, the hell reserved for liars and defamers. Hell wardens used red-hot iron tongs to rip her tongue out of her throat, aggressively slicing it to shreds with flaming blades before pouring boiling acid down her throat. She screamed in unimaginable agony, surrounded by the deafening curses of other hell beings. This brutal mutilation lasted for millions of eons.
  • Repulsive Voice and Universal Hatred: When the karma permits a human rebirth, her biological ability to communicate is heavily cursed. She is guaranteed to be born with a “Repulsive, Grating Voice or Severe, Incurable Bad Breath (Halitosis).” Furthermore, she carries a karmic aura of toxicity; people will naturally despise and distrust her the moment they meet her, making her a total social outcast.
  • Falsely Accused and Wrongfully Imprisoned: The karmic wheel executes flawless poetic justice. She is absolutely destined to be the victim of her own crime. She will be “Falsely Accused of Severe Crimes She Did Not Commit.” Despite her innocence, the public and the justice system will turn against her, highly likely resulting in her being “Wrongfully Imprisoned.” She will lose everything and suffer the exact same agonizing public humiliation she once inflicted on others.

3. Spiritual Solutions

Luang Por Dhammajayo issues a terrifying warning: “The most dangerous weapon today is not a gun; it is the fingertip that types fake news and destroys a life.” Defamation and cyber-bullying generate a massive, collective karmic debt that guarantees severe suffering. Anyone who has ever gossiped, spread fake news, or actively participated in canceling or defaming an innocent person must immediately delete the lies, publicly apologize, and restore the victim’s name. They must flawlessly observe the 4th Precept and aggressively practice “Piyavaca” (Truthful, Uniting Speech). To desperately attempt to mitigate this terrifying future, they must practice intense Metta meditation and dedicate their lives to defending the innocent and spreading absolute truth.
