Executive Summary: Karma of Hunting Animals for Sport and Pleasure
A case study from the Dream in Dream Kindergarten exposing the terrifying doom of killing for entertainment. Hunting animals, shooting birds, or fishing purely for sport or trophies guarantees the perpetrator will be ruthlessly hunted in hell, die violently by firearms in future lives, and suffer a lifetime of paralyzing paranoia.
1. The Assassin for Entertainment
In a past life, this man was a wealthy aristocrat with a sadistic hobby: “Hunting Animals for Sport.” Armed with weapons, he and his friends frequently ventured into the forests to hunt deer, boars, and birds. Crucially, he did not kill for survival or sustenance; he “Killed Purely for the Thrill, the Adrenaline, and for Trophies” to display his dominance. When the animals were wounded and fleeing in absolute, terrified agony, he laughed and ruthlessly tracked them down to deliver the killing blow. Snuffing out the lives of sentient beings who desperately wish to live, merely to satisfy a desire for entertainment, is a deeply malicious violation of the 1st Precept (Panatipata), instantly creating a massive army of vengeful karmic creditors.
2. The Retribution of Karma
- The 1st Major Hell (Sanjiva Naraka): The instant he died, his soul was dragged straight into Sanjiva Naraka. The roles were violently reversed. He became the prey, while monstrous hell wardens armed with flaming spears and arrows became the hunters. He ran frantically through a hellish forest of razor-sharp thorns in absolute, paralyzing terror—exactly mirroring the fear of the animals he hunted. When caught, he was brutally shot, butchered, and instantly resurrected to be hunted again. This ceaseless nightmare lasted for millions of eons.
- Hunted Down and Killed by Firearms: When the karma permits a human rebirth, the residual violence dictates his destiny. He is karmically magnetized to violent conflicts and is highly likely to become the target of assassins or enemies. No matter how much security he employs, he is destined to be “Hunted Down and Brutally Shot to Death,” often dying violently from gunshot wounds or stray bullets.
- Severe, Paralyzing Paranoia: Even in lives where he survives, the karmic echo of the terror he caused will consume his mind. He will suffer from “Severe, Crippling Paranoia.” He will constantly feel as though he is being watched, targeted, or stalked by unseen enemies. He will wake up screaming from nightmares of being chased, unable to find peace, trapped in the same psychological terror he inflicted on innocent wildlife.
3. Spiritual Solutions
Luang Por Dhammajayo issues an uncompromising warning: “Never trade your momentary entertainment for the life of another being; the karmic price is paid in your own blood.” Hunting for sport is planting the seeds of your own assassination. Anyone who currently hunts, shoots birds, or engages in sport-fishing must destroy their weapons and permanently abandon this violent hobby immediately. They must flawlessly observe the 1st Precept (vowing to die rather than kill) and aggressively practice “Abhaya Dana” (Granting Life). Buy animals destined for the slaughterhouse and release them into safe sanctuaries. Only by actively saving lives and practicing intense Metta (Loving-kindness) meditation can they hope to slightly dilute the terrifying “hunted” karma waiting for them.
