Executive Summary: Karma of Scamming Tourists and Exploiting Foreigners
A case study from the Dream in Dream Kindergarten exposing the devastating doom of exploiting the vulnerable. Taxi drivers, vendors, or scammers who intentionally overcharge, mislead, or rob foreign tourists guarantee they will burn in hell, be forced to live in foreign lands where they are brutally oppressed, and be repeatedly scammed while hopelessly lost.
1. The Predator of the Lost
In a past life, this man worked in the tourism industry in a major city, but he possessed a deeply greedy and deceitful nature. Whenever he encountered foreign tourists or travelers who didn’t speak the local language or know their way around, he saw them as easy prey. He routinely “Overcharged Them Outrageous Prices, Rigged Taxi Meters, and Intentionally Drove Them in Circles to Extort More Money.” He also sold them fake goods at premium prices. He lived by the toxic motto, “They are foreigners; they will leave tomorrow, so scam them today.” Exploiting the vulnerability of travelers who are far from home and completely reliant on local honesty is a deeply cowardly hybrid of Adinnadana (Theft) and Musavada (Lying).
2. The Retribution of Karma
- The 4th Major Hell (Roruva Naraka): The instant he died, his massive lies dragged his soul straight into Roruva Naraka. Hell wardens ripped out his tongue with flaming tongs. He was then dropped into a massive, dark, terrifying hellscape where he wandered completely lost. Every time he asked demonic entities for directions, they intentionally misled him into pits of boiling acid. He suffered this agonizing, lost terror for millions of eons.
- Exiled and Brutally Oppressed in a Foreign Land: When the karma permits a human rebirth, the wheel of justice forces him into the exact shoes of his victims. He is karmically destined to be forced out of his homeland by poverty or war. He will become a “Second-Class Citizen or Illegal Immigrant in a Foreign Country.” There, he will be brutally “Exploited, Underpaid, Racially Abused, and Treated with Extreme Prejudice” by the locals, completely helpless and unable to fight back.
- Lost, Scammed, and Utterly Helpless: The karmic echo of his scams guarantees he will taste his own poison. Whenever he travels or finds himself in unfamiliar territory, he is guaranteed to be “Targeted by Vicious Scammers and Robbers.” He will be extorted, robbed of all his money, and left stranded. When he begs the locals or authorities for help, they will completely ignore or mock him, mirroring the exact coldness he showed to tourists in the past.
3. Spiritual Solutions
Luang Por Dhammajayo issues a terrifying warning: “The money you scam from a lost traveler today buys your ticket to becoming a helpless refugee tomorrow.” Exploiting tourists and foreigners creates a heavy karmic debt of isolation and victimization. Anyone currently working in tourism, hospitality, or transport who overcharges foreigners, rigs meters, or scams travelers must immediately stop and adopt absolute honesty. Flawlessly observe the 2nd and 4th Precepts. To desperately attempt to mitigate this terrifying curse, they must aggressively “Volunteer as Translators, Donate to Refugee Charities, Help Lost Travelers for Free, and Provide Honest Guidance.” Only by actively becoming a safe haven for strangers can they hope to slightly heal their own doomed, alienated destiny.
