Dhammachai Day is one of the most important memorial days at Wat Phra Dhammakaya—the anniversary of the ordination of Luang Phor Dhammajayo (Phra Thepyan Mahamuni), the temple’s founder abbot. Disciples worldwide unite in gratitude and merit-making on this day.
When is Dhammachai Day?
27 August of each year is Dhammachai Day, the anniversary of Luang Phor Dhammajayo’s ordination as a monk. It is a day when disciples express gratitude and reverence (mutita kattanyu) toward their teacher.

Why it matters
Luang Phor Dhammajayo has dedicated his life to spreading the Dhammakaya tradition and to education, charity, and social development. Dhammachai Day reminds disciples to remember the goodness (khun) of their teachers and to repay it through generosity—one of the highest forms of tribute in Buddhism.
