EP.27 : The Deceived Life
When we come to live in this world, whatever we study, we must take the fully enlightened one as our standard. We should not take those who do not truly know, or those who know nothing at all, as our standard. The people of this world often believe those who do not truly know, yet do not believe those who clearly know. Thus our life is filled only with suffering; we do not find true happiness. Whether one is a millionaire, middle class, or lower class, each has their own suffering. It is not that wealth and money can give us everything; they give some things, but some things they cannot give.
We are molded and swayed by propaganda that this thing, that thing, or the other thing is happiness, coming from those who do not truly know, molded through all the media that come in through the eyes, ears, nose, tongue, body, and mind. We are molded to believe that what we see, hear, smell, taste, and touch is happiness — whether it be scenery, films, dramas, pleasant sounds, fragrant scents, varied flavors, or bodily touch, or even daydreaming and thinking about this and that. We are taught to believe that this is happiness, and so we understand that it must be so, and we go out to seek it, until we exhaust the limited time of our life — one whole lifetime wasted for free, and furthermore losing in life, because our life is governed by the law of karma, which carries us to travel through the cycle of rebirth, which is suffering.
But we can attain it. Stop and be still; we can attain it through the power of diligence and the power of our wisdom, which will make us practice correctly according to the principle of wisdom. We were born for this — to come and seek the Triple Gem within ourselves, which leads to realizing Nibbana. From now on, in the remaining time, your accumulated merit is ready to attain the Dhamma; we already understand the principle of wisdom well. What remains is the power of diligence. Use the remaining time to seek the Triple Gem within yourself, and may all of you succeed in attaining the Triple Gem within.
