Executive Summary: Child Abandonment Karma

A heartbreaking karmic case study from the Dream in Dream Kindergarten Wisdom School, taught by Ven. Luang Por Dhammajayo. This account explores the devastating karmic consequences of abandoning one’s own children or abusing defenseless infants. This extreme failure of duty weaves a karmic blueprint of eternal isolation and guarantees lifetimes of being an orphan.

1. The Cruelest Severance

The fundamental duty of a parent is to provide love, shelter, and protection to their offspring. Abandoning a child at a young age, fleeing responsibility, or subjecting an infant to brutal physical abuse inflicts a lifelong, incurable psychological wound (trauma) on an innocent being.

The intense feelings of loneliness, terror, and the desperate yearning for a parent’s love experienced by the abandoned child generate a powerful karmic frequency. This frequency of “absolute isolation” inevitably rebounds, binding the soul of the heartless parent to a future of profound loneliness.

2. The Karmic Return of Abandoning Blood

Parents who abandon or abuse their children face an agonizing and lonely retribution:

  • A Desolate Twilight: In this lifetime, even if they start a new family, their new children will feel no genuine bond with them. They will be neglected, disrespected, and ultimately abandoned in their old age. They will die lonely, with no one to care for them in their sickness.
  • The Orphan Blueprint: When reborn in future lives, they will carry the “Orphan Blueprint.” They will be abandoned by their parents shortly after birth, forced to wander as beggars or grow up in cold institutions. They will suffer from a lifelong, aching void, constantly bullied and starved of affection.
  • The Fifth Major Hell (Maha Roruva Naraka): Upon death, the astral body plunges into the 5th Major Hell. Demonic wardens cram them into red-hot iron ovens and seal the lids. They suffocate and burn in the dark, screaming in terror—mirroring the panic of an infant abandoned in a dark, confined space.

3. Theravada Canonical Tipitaka References

The Buddha elevated the status of parents to that of supreme divinities within the home, making the betrayal of this role a grave offense:

Brahma Sutta (Anguttara Nikaya)

“Monks, ‘Brahma’ (the Supreme God) is a term for mother and father. ‘Early teachers’ is a term for mother and father. They are the givers of life… Whoever does not support their mother and father (and their children) falls into a state of decline.”

4. Spiritual Solutions and Mitigation

For those who have made the tragic mistake of abandoning a child, Luang Por Dhammajayo offered a path to mitigate the karma:

  1. Take Immediate Responsibility: If the child is still alive and can be found, swallow your pride, apologize sincerely, and do everything in your power to provide for them, compensating for the lost years with overwhelming love.
  2. Sponsor the Orphaned: If the child cannot be found, aggressively sponsor orphanages and children’s hospitals. Provide warmth, education, and love to abandoned children to dilute your own “orphan karma.”
  3. Meditate and Beg Forgiveness: Practice deep meditation daily. Direct all the merit to the soul of the child you abandoned. Mentally beg for their forgiveness (Ahosi Kamma), praying for their happiness and asking them to release the karmic vengeance.
