Executive Summary: Karma of Domestic Violence and Spousal Abuse

A case study from the Dream in Dream Kindergarten exposing the darkness of domestic violence. Brutally beating and emotionally terrorizing a physically weaker spouse guarantees the perpetrator will be reincarnated as a battered victim, enduring agonizing, inescapable relationships in future lifetimes.

1. Fists that Destroy Love

In a past life, this man possessed an explosive, highly aggressive temper. Whenever he became intoxicated or felt frustrated with his wife, he would violently “beat, punch, and kick” her without a shred of mercy. Even when she cried and begged for her life, he would not stop. Using physical force to brutally oppress a weaker person—especially a spouse whom one is supposed to love and protect—is a severe form of violence (violation of the 1st precept). It inflicts horrific physical trauma and deep, lasting psychological scars.

2. The Retribution of Karma

  • Becoming the Battered Victim: In his current life, this violent karma magnetically reverses the roles. He is reincarnated in a weaker physical form (often as a woman) and is karmically drawn into a marriage with an incredibly cruel, abusive partner. She will be routinely beaten, heavily terrorized, and physically trapped in an abusive relationship, forcing her to intimately experience the exact agonizing fear she once inflicted on her former spouse.
  • Chronic Pain and Musculoskeletal Diseases: The karma of punching and kicking another human being physically manifests in her own body. She will suffer from chronic, unexplained physical pain, severe herniated discs, or be incredibly prone to accidents that leave her constantly bruised and battered, mirroring the injuries of an abused victim.
  • Shattered and Agonizing Marriages: Her romantic life will be entirely devoid of peace. Her relationships will be characterized by violent arguments, extreme paranoia, and endless tears. Ultimately, her family life will violently shatter, leading to a painful divorce and deep isolation.

3. Spiritual Solutions

Luang Por Dhammajayo teaches that a home should be the ultimate safe haven, not a battlefield for one’s rage. Committing domestic violence destroys the very foundation of love and breeds a karmic cycle of immense agony. Anyone who has resorted to physical violence in a relationship must stop immediately and entirely. They must learn to communicate with reason and kind words (Piyavaca). They must sincerely prostrate and beg for forgiveness from their spouse. Most importantly, they must flawlessly observe the 1st precept (non-violence) and aggressively meditate to radiate loving-kindness, extinguishing the fire of rage within their own heart to transform their home back into a peaceful sanctuary.
