Executive Summary: Karma of Hoarding Water and Destroying Public Wells
A case study from the Dream in Dream Kindergarten exposing the horrifying doom of weaponizing nature. Heartless individuals who hoard natural water sources during a drought, or maliciously destroy public wells out of spite, guarantee they will be reborn as agonizingly thirsty Pretas (hungry ghosts), be born into severe deserts, and die a miserable death by extreme dehydration.
1. The Hoarder of Hydration
In a past life, this man was a wealthy landowner consumed by extreme stinginess (Macchariya) and malice. In his village, there were public streams and wells that the villagers relied on for drinking and farming. Driven by greed, he ordered his men to “Dam the Streams and Fence Off the Water Sources,” illegally hoarding all the water for his own massive estate. When a severe drought hit, villagers begged for water as their crops withered and cattle died, but he heartlessly refused. Even worse, out of pure spite during a land dispute, he ordered his men to secretly “Fill In and Destroy the Public Wells” with dirt, forcing desperate villagers to buy water from him at extortionate prices. Destroying the source of life to extort the vulnerable creates a severe, scorching karmic debt.
2. The Retribution of Karma
- The Thirsty Preta (Hungry Ghost) with a Throat of Fire: The instant he died, his intense stinginess and cruelty dragged his soul into the Preta Realm. He was born as a terrifying Hungry Ghost with crackling, dry skin and a “Throat Permanently Engulfed in Flames.” He suffered from excruciating, maddening thirst. Whenever he frantically ran to a river to drink, the water would instantly transform into boiling sand or acid the moment it touched his lips. He endured this maddening dehydration for millions of eons.
- Born into Severe Deserts and Famine: When the karma eventually permits a human rebirth, he is karmically locked out of lush, prosperous environments. He is guaranteed to be born in “The Most Arid, Destitute Deserts on Earth.” He will live his entire life in extreme poverty, constantly battling severe thirst and lack of sanitation, mirroring the exact desperation he inflicted on his neighbors.
- Agonizing Death by Extreme Dehydration: The karmic wheel executes flawless justice. His physical biology will be cursed with kidney failures or diseases that prevent his body from retaining water. Ultimately, he is destined to get lost in a wilderness or disaster zone and “Die a Pathetic, Agonizing Death by Severe Dehydration,” begging for a single drop of water that will never come.
3. Spiritual Solutions
Luang Por Dhammajayo issues a terrifying warning: “He who hoards the water of the earth is drinking the liquid fire of hell.” Monopolizing natural resources to exploit the vulnerable is a fast track to eternal thirst. Anyone who currently hoards resources, engages in price-gouging during disasters, or destroys public property out of spite, must instantly repent. To desperately attempt to mitigate this scorching future, they must heavily fund the “Drilling of Deep Water Wells for Remote Villages, Sponsor Massive Water Tanks for Monasteries, and Donate Endless Supplies of Clean Drinking Water to Drought Victims.” Only by actively quenching the thirst of the masses can they hope to slightly extinguish the flames burning in their own karmic throat.
