Executive Summary: Karma of Practicing Black Magic and Sorcery

A case study from the Dream in Dream Kindergarten exposing the terrifying reality of the “Path of Mara” (Wrong View). Using black magic to harm or control others binds the practitioner’s soul to absolute darkness and horrific lower realms.

1. Spells Bought with a Soul

In a past life, this man was deeply obsessed with the occult and black magic. He was hired to cast hexes, put dangerous foreign objects into people’s bodies through sorcery, and brew dark love potions to manipulate minds. Operating in this manner required channeling dark energy and binding sinful spirits. This completely saturated his own mind with absolute darkness and forcefully tied his fate to the demonic realms.

2. The Retribution of Karma

  • The 4th and 6th Major Hells: Upon death, his inner body was sucked into the 4th Major Hell (punishing the speech used to chant dark spells) and the 6th Major Hell (punishing Wrong View). Hell wardens impaled him with flaming spears and poured boiling liquid copper down his throat, repeatedly chopping his body to pieces so he could experience the exact agony he inflicted on his victims.
  • Reborn as Asuras and Demons: After escaping hell, he is destined to be reborn as a hideous, terrifying Asura (demon) living in dark, freezing mountain crevices. He will suffer from perpetual starvation and paralyzing fear, completely cut off from the light of the sun and the Dhamma.
  • Insanity and Demonic Possession: When he is eventually reborn as a human, the residual karma of practicing dark arts will ensure he suffers from severe mental illness and hallucinations. He will frequently be possessed or tormented by malicious spirits, completely stripping away his peace of mind.

3. Spiritual Solutions

Luang Por Dhammajayo teaches that black magic is the “Path of Mara” which only drags lives downward. Anyone involved—whether the practitioner or the client—will face horrifying karmic consequences. If one has made this mistake, they must quit instantly and completely. They must discard all dark amulets and talismans, strictly observe the 5 precepts, chant the qualities of the Buddha, Dhamma, and Sangha, and practice meditation to brighten the mind. Only the pure power of the Buddha’s merit can wash away the dark curses and karmic residue within the mind.
