Easy but Deep EP.3: We Are the Center of the Universe
From Luang Pu Dhammachayo’s guidance at Wat Phra Dhammakaya — “Easy but Deep” Series, Episode 3
After EP.1 taught that “stopping still for even one minute is worthwhile” and EP.2 taught “looking as if you’re not looking,” Luang Pu now teaches the correct way to “place the mind.”
Core Teaching: We Are the Center of the Universe
Luang Pu teaches that when we sit in meditation, we should gently place the mind, comfortably, with a joyful heart and a gentle smile from within.
Make the mind clear, as if we are the center of the universe, the center of all things — still, soft, gentle, like a noble birth (sukhumala born).
How to Place the Mind: Light as a Feather
- Soft like cotton — don’t tense, don’t squeeze; let the mind be soft
- Light as a feather — floating gently in the air, comfortable and relaxed
- Mind clear and cool — even when seeing orbs or Buddha images, remain calm, don’t get excited
- Don’t force the image, don’t rush, don’t push, don’t stare — just look gently, comfortably
- Joyful, refreshed, radiant — let the mind be clear like a crystal, shining like a diamond
Lesson Summary
EP.3 teaches that meditation is not about “squeezing” the mind, but about letting the mind be light, clear, and comfortable — as if we are the center of the universe. Mind still, soft, gentle — like this, continuously.
“Let the mind be clear like a crystal, shining like a diamond.” — Luang Pu Dhammachayo
