EP.20 : How to Stop Pressing the Eyeballs
When you close your eyes, you must close them properly — just right, so that the eyelids touch gently. Don’t squeeze your eyes tight, don’t press on the inner corners of the eyes, don’t press down on the eyeballs.
When your eyelids touch gently, it shows that the mind is resting comfortably, not focusing too hard on the nimitta (mental image), not intending with excessive longing. The desire to see quickly, to succeed quickly, is gone.
So the eyelids only touch gently, not closed completely tight. If the eyelids are firmly shut, it shows we have begun to focus on the nimitta, pressing the eyeballs down to look.
The result is stress, and we gain nothing, and it will make us weary and disheartened because we are doing it wrongly, until we feel discouraged and blame our merits and parami, thinking we must have little merit and fortune. In truth, we are simply doing it incorrectly. We must observe ourselves and adjust to the right method.
