Easy but Deep 2 EP.98: The Words We Say to Ourselves Shape the Mind

Date:

Share post:

We may be careful with the words we use toward others, yet speak harshly to ourselves: “I am not good enough,” “I cannot do this,” or “I am worse than everyone else.” The voice we hear repeatedly each day naturally influences the mind.

Being kind to yourself does not mean indulging yourself. It means telling the truth without adding cruelty to the mistake.

Separate What You Did From Who You Are

A mistake is an event, not the whole of your identity. We can honestly admit that something was done poorly while still recognizing the value of learning and correcting it.

A Dhamma Perspective: Notice the Inner Speech

When we observe thoughts without immediately believing them, we begin to see that many judgments arise and pass away. Awareness gives us a choice: follow the thought, or return to reality and the cause that should be created.

What You Can Do Today

  • Notice the self-critical phrases that appear most often.
  • Change “I am terrible” into “This is something I still need to practice.”
  • Accept mistakes without adding insults to yourself.
  • Speak to yourself with truth, responsibility, and kindness.

One Good Thing Today

Say one truthful and encouraging sentence to yourself today: “I can still learn, and I will do the part I can as well as I can.”

Come Back Tomorrow

A mind does not become strong because it never makes mistakes. It becomes stronger when, after a mistake, we know how to return with awareness.
