Easy but Deep 2 EP.100: Peace Does Not Mean Having No Problems

Many people imagine that peace will come when everything is settled: no unfinished work, no conflict, and nothing to worry about. But if we wait for the outside world to become completely peaceful first, we may wait a very long time.

A deeper kind of peace is being able to have problems without adding unnecessary turmoil to the mind.

A Problem and Suffering Are Not Exactly the Same

Some problems need time to resolve. We may not be able to change a situation immediately, but we can notice how much fear, anger, and imagined future trouble the mind is adding to it.

A Dhamma Perspective: Know the Body, Know the Mind, Then Do What Should Be Done

When the mind is not pulled along by every thought, there is enough space to see what is actually happening. Then we can do what should be done one step at a time. Peace is not escaping problems; it is not creating additional problems in the mind.

What You Can Do Today

  • Pause when you notice your thoughts moving too quickly.
  • Breathe and notice the body as it is.
  • Separate what needs action from what cannot yet be changed.
  • Handle one matter without needing to defeat everything at once.

One Good Thing Today

Choose one problem and ask, “What part is actually in my hands?” Do that part as well as you can, and set the rest down for now.

Come Back Tomorrow

This is EP.100, but training the mind does not end at one hundred. Every day is another opportunity to return to the body, the mind, and the causes we can create.

Peace is not a day without problems. It may be a day when problems are present, yet awareness and kindness are still preserved.
