Executive Summary: Karma of Corruption and Embezzling Public Funds

A case study from the Dream in Dream Kindergarten exposing the devastating karma of corrupt officials who embezzle state funds. Because this involves stealing from the entire nation, it is an exceptionally heavy sin that leads to a tragic demise and agonizing torture in the major hells.

1. Wealth Built on the Nation’s Suffering

In a past life, this man was a high-ranking government official with the power to approve massive budgets. However, he abused his authority to engage in systemic corruption, embezzling public funds and demanding bribes from various infrastructure projects. His greed severely stunted the nation’s progress and caused widespread hardship for the citizens. Although he lived with immense wealth and power in that lifetime, his assets were saturated with the curses and tears of the public.

2. The Retribution of Karma

  • The 2nd Major Hell (Kalasutta Naraka): Immediately upon death, his inner body was dragged down to the 2nd Major Hell. Hell wardens used red-hot, black iron threads to snap guidelines across his body. They then used blazing iron saws and axes to slowly hack and slice his body into pieces—punishing him for how he systematically “sliced off” and embezzled the national budget.
  • The Burden-Bearing Hungry Ghost: After escaping hell, he is destined to be reborn as a colossal hungry ghost (Preta). However, he will be forced to carry massive, incredibly heavy, red-hot iron boulders on his back for eons. He will suffer from unimaginable heat and crushing weight, paying off the immense debt of stealing state property (which belonged to the entire population).
  • Extreme and Unbreakable Poverty: When he is finally reborn as a human, the residual karma will force him to be born into a slum or the absolute poorest of families. He will have to perform backbreaking manual labor just to survive, yet will never receive fair compensation. He will constantly be exploited, cheated, and denied his rightful wages by his employers.

3. Spiritual Solutions

Luang Por Dhammajayo teaches that stealing state property or engaging in political corruption is exponentially heavier than stealing from an individual, because the victims are the entire population of the country. Consequently, the karmic creditors are countless. Anyone involved in corruption must stop immediately, return the assets to the state, or donate equivalent funds to major public charities. They must strictly observe the 5 precepts and practice deep meditation to generate massive merit to beg for national forgiveness (Ahosi Kamma).
