Easy but Deep EP.3: We Are the Center of the Universe
From Luang Pu Dhammachayo’s guidance at Wat Phra Dhammakaya — “Easy but Deep” Series, Episode 3
After EP.1 taught that “stopping still for even one minute is worthwhile” and EP.2 taught “looking as if you’re not looking,” Luang Pu now teaches the correct way to “place the mind.”
Core Teaching: We Are the Center of the Universe
Luang Pu teaches that when we sit in meditation, we should gently place the mind, comfortably, with a joyful heart and a gentle smile from within.
Make the mind clear, as if we are the center of the universe, the center of all things — still, soft, gentle, like a noble birth (sukhumala born).
How to Place the Mind: Light as a Feather
- Soft like cotton — don’t tense, don’t squeeze; let the mind be soft
- Light as a feather — floating gently in the air, comfortable and relaxed
- Mind clear and cool — even when seeing orbs or Buddha images, remain calm, don’t get excited
- Don’t force the image, don’t rush, don’t push, don’t stare — just look gently, comfortably
- Joyful, refreshed, radiant — let the mind be clear like a crystal, shining like a diamond
Lesson Summary
EP.3 teaches that meditation is not about “squeezing” the mind, but about letting the mind be light, clear, and comfortable — as if we are the center of the universe. Mind still, soft, gentle — like this, continuously.
“Let the mind be clear like a crystal, shining like a diamond.” — Luang Pu Dhammachayo

We Are the Center of the Universe — How to Place the Mind in Meditation
Luang Pu Dhammachayo teaches that in meditation, we should place our mind as if we are the center of the universe. The mind should be soft like cotton, light as a feather, clear like a diamond — no tension, no forcing.
Why Place the Mind Lightly?
Many people meditate but wonder why their mind won’t become calm. We tense up, use too much force. Placing the mind lightly helps it relax and enter meditation more easily.
How to Place the Mind Lightly
1. Sit comfortably with a straight back, not stiff
2. Close your eyes gently, place your mind at the center, about 2 inches above the navel
3. Think lightly, like a star or a clear crystal ball
4. Chant gently: “Samma Araham”
5. Let the mind float freely, as if floating in the air
Real Experience
When you place your mind lightly, it gradually becomes calm. Sometimes, sitting for less than 5 minutes, you can feel the mind truly stop. This is the experience that Luang Pu Dhammachayo calls “Easy but Deep.”
Benefits of Light Mind Placement
- The mind becomes calm faster
- No tension, no headaches
- You can meditate longer
- You become more mindful in daily life
- The mind experiences greater happiness
Try practicing light mind placement every day, and you’ll discover that your mind can truly achieve stillness. 🙏
