During meditation, some practitioners may notice images or scenes appearing in the mind. They may involve people, animals, objects, memories, imagined events, or other impressions. This episode emphasizes that such experiences should not immediately be given a special meaning.

Notice without following

When an image appears, simply recognize it and let it pass. There is no need to ask whether it is real, where it came from, or what it predicts. Too much questioning can pull the mind away from stillness.

An image is not the goal

Meditation experiences differ from person to person, so they should not be used as a measure of spiritual superiority. More important than unusual imagery is the quality of the mind: calmness, comfort, steadiness, and clarity.

If an image disappears, there is no need to feel disappointed. If it returns, there is no need to become excited. Remain balanced and continue with the proper placement of awareness.

Stay balanced

The practical principle is neither to fight what appears nor to chase it. Let experiences arise and pass while keeping the mind quiet and comfortable. As concentration becomes more stable, subtler experiences may arise naturally.

The central lesson is that mental imagery is something encountered along the path, not something to possess. The real direction of practice is toward a mind that is increasingly steady, clear, and free from distraction.
