Easy but Deep 2 EP.31: Illusory Visual Nimit reflects on how to relate to an inner visual experience during meditation without chasing it. The teaching attributed to Luang Por Dhammajayo emphasizes a relaxed, neutral attitude rather than forcing the mind to hold an image.

Know the Experience Without Chasing It

An inner image may appear, change, become faint, or disappear. The practical point is not to turn the experience into a target that must be captured. Notice it calmly and continue the practice.

Attention Can Become Too Tight

When we become overly interested in whether an image is still there, the mind may become tense. Instead of trying harder, soften the effort and allow attention to remain steady and comfortable.

Use the Scenery Analogy

The teaching compares this attitude to watching scenery from a moving vehicle. You can see the sky, trees, people, or mountains without reaching out to hold them. In meditation, the same principle can mean knowing an experience without grasping at it.

Comfort Matters

If you become sleepy, uncomfortable, tense, or distracted by physical sensations, respond appropriately. Meditation does not require ignoring the body. Adjust gently and return when you are comfortable enough to continue.

Do Not Turn Nimit Into a Test

A visual experience should not automatically be treated as proof of spiritual attainment. Different people can experience meditation differently. The safer approach is to observe, remain balanced, and avoid making dramatic conclusions from one session.

A Simple Practice

Sit comfortably, relax the face and body, and use your chosen meditation method. If an inner image appears, know it without deliberately staring at it. If it fades, continue without disappointment. Return to the practice rather than trying to reproduce the experience.
