Easy but Deep 2 | EP.41 | Let Peace Come Before Results

Sometimes we want meditation to become clear quickly, so we try harder and harder until the mind becomes tense. A steadier approach is to care for the causes of practice rather than constantly demanding a result. When the body is comfortable, the mind is not pressured, and attention returns gently, steadiness can develop in its own time.

Let Ease Become the Foundation

Begin with a posture that is stable but not rigid. Relax the shoulders, face, hands, and other areas that do not need unnecessary effort. Let breathing remain natural. Comfort is not the same as laziness; it is a condition that can help attention remain present without constant struggle.

Stop Measuring Every Session

Questions such as “How far have I progressed?” or “Why has nothing happened yet?” can quietly become part of the distraction. Instead, pay attention to the causes you can actually cultivate: showing up, remembering the practice, noticing distraction, and returning without frustration. These are meaningful forms of progress even when no dramatic experience occurs.

Practice the Causes, Not the Promise of Results

A peaceful session does not need to become a promise that tomorrow will be the same. A restless session does not prove that practice has failed. Each session offers different conditions. The skill is to meet those conditions wisely and continue without excessive excitement or disappointment.

Balance Effort and Relaxation

Too little effort can lead to drifting or sleepiness, while too much effort can create tension. Notice the difference in your own experience. If the mind is dull, gently increase alertness. If the mind is strained, soften the effort. The aim is not to find one perfect level forever, but to learn how to adjust.

A Simple Practice for Today

  • Settle the body before trying to settle the mind.
  • Choose one simple object of attention.
  • Return whenever attention wanders, without criticism.
  • Do not demand a special experience.
  • Finish by recognizing the value of having practiced.

Let Understanding Grow in Its Time

Meditation becomes more sustainable when we stop treating every session as a test. Take care of the causes, practice regularly, and learn from what actually happens. When the mind is given enough space to become steady, the quality of practice can gradually become clearer without being forced.
