The wild horse is a horse that is difficult to train — stubborn, disobedient, and restless. It is a metaphor for the mind that still struggles and refuses to become still in meditation. Luang Por Dhammajayo teaches that no matter how stubborn the mind, if we know the correct method of training — that is, bringing the mind to stillness at the center of the body, the Seventh Base — the mind can gradually become calm.
Training the mind to become still is like training a wild horse. It requires patience, consistency, and repetition — it is not accomplished in a single attempt. We must keep training until the mind becomes accustomed to stillness, until in the end that wild horse becomes a tame, trainable horse leading us to success in meditation.
