In Dhammakaya meditation practice, mastering the 6th Base of the Mind is an essential stepping stone. The 6th base acts as the natural turning point and pathway before the mind rises to rest permanently at the 7th base—the center of the body.
Locating the 6th Base of the Mind
The 6th base is located at the exact intersection of two imaginary lines drawn inside the torso at navel level: one line running front-to-back from the navel, and one running right-to-left. The point where these two lines cross inside the abdomen is the 6th Base of the Mind.
Why the 6th Base Matters for Deep Meditation
- Refining Mental Energy: Bringing awareness to the 6th base melts away surface stress and mental restlessness.
- The Gateway to the 7th Base: Once the mind becomes still and clear at the 6th base, gently elevate awareness two finger-breadths higher to the 7th base.
Simple Steps for Gentle Practice
- Relax Completely: Sit in a comfortable posture and release all physical tension.
- Visualize Translucent Light: Gently visualize a clear, bright crystal sphere at the center of the abdomen. Keep the visualization soft and feather-light.
- Silent Mantra Recitation: Repeat the peaceful sound “Samma Arahang” softly inside your mind to maintain inner calm.
