EP.25 : How to Practice to Attain Inner Experience

You must adjust your way of closing the eyes correctly, this is very important. Then relax the muscles of every part of your body, all over. Beginning with the muscles of the face, head, neck, shoulders, and both arms to the fingertips, relax the muscles of the torso and both legs to the tips of the toes. Move and adjust your body, adjust your sitting posture to be correct, estimating that the blood and breath in your body can flow easily, so that you will not suffer pain or tiredness. Then examine whether you have truly relaxed your whole body and whether you have closed your eyes correctly according to the principle of wisdom. It must be gentle and relaxed. Make the mind clear and cool, make the mind pure, not attached to people, animals, things, business, work, house, or all creatures and all things. Let go, abandon everything and release all things, for all creatures and all things are merely temporary dwellings, depending on one another for a short while, and all things go toward dissolution.

Even our human body is merely a temporary dwelling, just to be a passage for the mind to return to its original abode, in the same position as the one who clearly knows and sees all things — the Lord Buddha — at the center of the body, the seventh base, which is in the middle of our abdomen, at the level two finger-widths above the navel. Bring your mind back into the inner realm gently and delicately, like a feather floating in the air that gradually, carefully descends to touch the surface of the water softly, without causing the water to ripple. Our mind must gradually settle gently, being still, tender, and light, keeping the mind clear and calm, continuing on like this.

To observe whether you are practicing correctly according to the principle of wisdom: if you do it correctly, a reward will arise for yourself — the body will relax and feel comfortable, and the mind will also feel comfortable. Even though you do not yet see anything, you feel satisfied with this feeling, feeling spacious, open, hollow, and pleasant. This is the initial reward for practicing correctly according to the principle of wisdom. Once you attain this state, this mental phenomenon, which is comfortable in both body and mind, you must keep the mind calm, maintaining the stillness, tenderness, and ease of body and mind. This kind of satisfaction is the reward of our life, which will lead to the next reward — the body becomes even more comfortable, and the mind becomes more at ease, to the level where the body gradually becomes spacious, open, light, and comfortable, expanding or dissolving into the atmosphere, as if we had no body and no self, like a subtle air element, with a gentle current of happiness and purity flowing in to take its place, which increases the ease of body and mind more and more.

Easy but Deep EP.27: The Deceived Life — a teaching of Luang Por Dhammajayo, Wat Phra Dhammakaya that we must take the fully enlightened one as our standard, not those who do not truly know. Humans often believe the ignorant rather than the enlightened, and so our life is filled with suffering, molded by media to believe that sensory pleasures are happiness. But we can attain true happiness by stopping and being still, through the power of diligence and wisdom, seeking the Triple Gem within ourselves which leads to realizing Nibbana.
