Meditation does not have to begin with waiting for a special experience. A more important beginning is to relax and stay with what we are doing in the present moment.
When we sit comfortably without forcing the mind or expecting a particular image to appear, the mind has room to settle. We do not need to judge the practice by what we see.
Sometimes the beginning feels ordinary. That does not mean the practice has failed. Keep the body comfortable, the mind peaceful, and the practice consistent. Good practice is the gradual creation of the right causes.
When the mind is not rushed by expectation, the present moment becomes a quiet space in which inner subtlety can unfold.
