In Dhammakaya meditation practice, learning to rest the mind softly at the 7th Base of the Mind is the fundamental key to experiencing genuine inner peace and spiritual awakening. The 7th base is the home of the mind and the gateway to ultimate stillness.
Locating the 7th Base of the Mind
Imagine two light-lines crossing inside your body: one running from the front (navel) to the back, and another from the right side to the left side. The intersection point is the 6th base. Measuring vertically two finger-breadths directly above this intersection brings you to the 7th Base of the Mind—the exact center of the body.
Techniques for Gentle Mental Placement
- Total Physical Relaxation: Sit comfortably in full or half lotus posture. Relax all muscles from head to toe.
- Close Eyes Softly: Close your eyes gently without squeezing or straining your eyelids.
- Rest Awareness Lightly: Visualize a clear, bright crystal sphere or a gentle glowing sun at the 7th base. Keep the visualization soft, like a feather landing on calm water.
- Recite the Mantra “Samma Arahang”: If thoughts wander, repeat the comforting mantra “Samma Arahang” softly inside your mind to anchor your attention.
Overcoming Common Challenges
If you feel tension or headaches, it means you are focusing too hard. Simply pause, take a deep relaxing breath, and reset. Never force the mind; allow it to settle naturally into the center with ease and joy.
